I was born on a small island in the northeast United States called Manhattan.
The earliest novels I remember reading are children's versions of Treasure Island, The Three Muskateers, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was a set. Also Curious George.
By fifth grade, I had created a whole pantheon of my own superheroes, and sometimes wrote crossovers with DC heroes.
My "first" novel was Star Wars in 7th grade. It was a horribly derivative of Star Wars, featuring electric swords and psychokinetic powers and a Dark Lord of some sort. All records and traces of this novel have been lost.
My next novels included all my friends as characters.
(Don't do that.)
I later went to college, worked some day jobs, wrote a few novels, and eventually saw my first published novel, Sins of Blood and Stone, in 2002.
I moved around a bit, from New York to Florida to Australia then back to Florida, Virginia briefly after that, and Madrid for a heartbreakingly short time. I sought refuge from the world in Florida (which happened to coincide with the onset of Covid), and eventually made it to Pennsylvania, where I voted in the last election.
I live alone with a cat, Max, who hates if I disrupt his routine.
I still write novels. My next book will likely be out in 2023.
Cool history. I really liked your Once Upon A Time In Midnight. Any hints on your next book in 2023?
Just last month, my weird western novella La Casa del Diablo and a collection of 69 magical stories, The Museum of Curiosities, were both released. In early 2023, we'll see my third poetry book, Annabel Lee, in Shadow, and a paperback re-release of my first novel, Sins of Blood and Stone, as well as its never before seen follow-up.
reggielutz: @johiay: lol it was a bar in Mountaintop PA. Currently the Mountaintop Pub and Eatery. I wasn't around at all when they filmed there but I just heard about it. And I didn't see the episode but it aired last night. My brain just went, "Whaaaat!?!"
