Does anybody else listen to this one?
The premise: Jeffrey Cranor (one of the cowriters of Welcome to Nightvale) is horror squeamish. Cecil Baldwin (the main voice actor on WTNV) loves horror movies. He's bringing Jeffrey on a journey through horror films selected in a semi-randomized manner through dice rolls (matching up a monster with a style, then they choose from some options that match) and then they talk about the movie and give a rating at the end based on its approachability and overall quality. Sometimes they have guests come on with them.
I have a love-hate relationship with this podcast.
I've listened to like 60 episodes so obviously I can't hate it too much (I have a long commute, ok?) but I also frequently find myself arguing in my car and getting frustrated with the discussions. The most enjoyable part of the show imo is where they dig up a movie that fits a sometimes obscure prompt and watch stuff I've never heard of before. The most irritating part of the show is how much of it is spent Being Entertaining Funny Guys for fun's sake instead of just talking about the movie (maybe I hate fun)....no scratch that, the MOST irritating part is that they repeatedly seem to confuse "this made me uncomfortable" with "this was bad" which I guess is not a shocking perspective to come from someone who is self-described horror averse but IS unnerving coming from a co-creator of a beloved piece of horror media.
I think I just want to find someone else who's listened to this show so I can figure out if I'm just being totally unfair or if someone shares my irritation
Someone come talk to me about this podcast.
