For those who don't know me, which is probably a fair number of you....
I’m a nationally recognized authority on disaster readiness, which means I’m really well-known in really, really small circles. I’ve been involved with “prepping” to one degree or another for about 40 years now. Prior to embarking on a full-time writing career, I was a private investigator for about 15 years. A few of you might remember me as JimPI on Shocklines or TODP.
I’ve published about a dozen books to date, with more on the way. I’m also the Editor in Chief for Prepper Survival Guide and Backwoods Survival Guide magazines. A few of the others who have boards here have written for these magazines, including our esteemed host as well as the lovely and talented Mary SanGiovanni.
Over the last decade, I’ve written for most of the publications in the niche, including American Survival Guide, Survivor’s Edge, OFFGRID, Field & Stream, and even Boy’s Life a few times.
For a while, I hosted a podcast called The Library at the End of the World, something I’m hoping to get back to doing next year. Despite having a face made for radio, I’ve appeared on TV a few times, just enough to know for certain that reporters rarely get everything right. I also worked with Panteao Productions on a series of instructional videos a few years back.
Despite the stereotypes that abound regarding preppers and survivalism, I favor a down to earth, practical approach to being prepared for whatever life might throw at us.
Let’s see, what else can I tell you? I’m happily married with three sons, two dogs, and way too many cats. I collect knives, a hobby which has become profitable as I write regularly for Knives Illustrated magazine. I’m a fan of 70s and 80s TV, the cheesier the better (think Love Boat and Fantasy Island).
At the end of the day, I’m incredibly blessed to be able to earn a good living doing something I love. The fact that I don’t need to put on pants to go to work is a huge bonus, too.
