My memoir-that-became-an-autobiography lingers in the back of my brain. "Oh, did I include that? Did I color that correctly? Am I making a point?" I have to put it away for now, though, it's really hard work and emotionally taxing. So I "started" my next major project.
I intend to write four novellas that are loosely connected. I've written tiny ideas here and there, so it's been "started" for a long time. One of the connections is that I intend the stories to be character's journals. Problem? Getting syntax and word-choice right for different eras and areas. I'm basically writing in MY voice just to get the story down, then I'll go back and clean up the language. I'm currently writing as a 1700's "Orthopaedist," when orthopedics was more focused on correcting bone and spinal issues in children. To note, I'm not a doctor, nor was I was in the 1700's. So it sort of becomes a dance of, "what can I just 'get away' with and how much should I dig into 18th Century osteo-medicine?"
It depends on my mood, I guess. And time, if I have enough to get my mind into a story. I have a massive assortment of random multiples of WIPs from over the years at varying stages spread across a mess of computer file folders on multiple drives and phone notes. Anything from a few paragraphs to almost finished novel length.

A few short stories at once as I bounce from inspiration to inspiration. a good ol' fashioned sci-fi, one weird fiction and one horror.
Born in rural Ohio, retired military & soon retired civie; lives w/ wife, daughter & dog in coastal Virginia. Short-listed in The Write Practice's Spring 2022 Writing Contest, pub'd in Short Fiction Break, Teleport Mag, Horror Tree, Trembling w/ Fear, Fark's Doomscrolling Antho, Red Cape Pubs: P is for Poltergeist & Q is for Quantum, Creepy Horror Podcast, Dragon Soul Press, Black Petals Mag & more soon from Lovecraftiana Mag, Black Ink Fiction & Red Cape Pubs.
Sequel to my novel THE THIRD FLOOR, finally, ten years after publishing the first one. Hey, inspiration comes when it comes. I had hoped to make a big push on word count this long holiday weekend, but battling the flu is taking a lot of the wind out of those sails. Still, 76,000 current words isn't bad. Hoping to hit 80,000 before Monday.

I am finishing my rough draft of" Deadlands" a novel set in my fantasy realm while I start editing the first novel "Soulless" by which I mean using the second rough draft to avoid editing the first. While they are set in the same fantasy world they are not the same series but two story lines on separate sides of the world with different characters being followed. I'm having fun and the creation of an entire world is mind boggling. That all of this came from my brain still amazes me.

In the clean up process for a number of things. A novel I cowrote/am cowriting (whichever verb tense you prefer), a novella that had been waiting for feedback (feedback which I now finally have), and cleaning up and extending Good Boy to put it on paper and further the deforestation that will play a role in humanity's downfall.
My current WIP is a Prohibition-era retelling of Dracula called "Fill Him With Daylight". I'm writing it as a series of journal entries and letters, which is something I've never done before. Stretching the writing muscles! 😄
It's a lot of fun going through the original novel again, this time with an eye for what might make a fun Easter egg in my own book.
I posted on here already, but my plan for the next year changed recently. I'm putting out a Travel Horror Collection in the spring, a coming-of-age novella in the summer, a cult horror novella set at a company retreat in the fall, and a haunted nursing home novella in the winter. I'm not sure what new projects I'll be working on in the near future, but I have my publishing schedule planned out for 2023.
reggielutz: @johiay: lol it was a bar in Mountaintop PA. Currently the Mountaintop Pub and Eatery. I wasn't around at all when they filmed there but I just heard about it. And I didn't see the episode but it aired last night. My brain just went, "Whaaaat!?!"
