Thank you to annemarble for directing me to the Expo youtube. Thank you powers-that-be for recording it and making it available after-the-fact.
Nice job Mary for keeping that moving along. I really enjoyed hearing from new talent, publishers and I always love the art and artists getting their due.
It was lovely that Heather hears the stories in her mother’s narrative voice. Loved that.
Can I make a plea? Will anyone care to hear? Not for myself, but for that undiscovered voice out there who has an amazing story that might get tossed to the side because the font is wrong, or the spacing is plain ass wrong. Punctuation is a little screwy or has a few misspelled words. I just get bummed that some real talent gets overlooked but the polished turd is all the rage.
I know. I know. You guys don’t have the time to coddle someone who doesn’t format quite right. Who hits that send button and realizes, “fuck! That was my rough draft.” Or is so new, they don’t have a following and just want to tell a story to someone who isn’t their mom who loves everything and gives no constructive criticism.
Please. Just once in a while, can you editors read one of these misfits, the bruised and cat-scratched story that’s a little messed up? Perhaps see potential that your words back to them could make all the difference?
Christ. I know this sounds like a commercial for Jerry’s Kids. But just one story? One lucky writer a month? One?
“so shines a good deed in this weary world.”
