All,
Yes, go ahead and plug in this cassette if you have it. Fucking great album. I am actually playing it in the background as I type this.
There really isn't anyway to sugar coat this, this last winter has sucked. Over the last 4 months I have released a grand total of one book. This is a long fall down from my 3-4 per month average that I pretty well maintained for as long as I can remember. And while paper shortages (especially specialty paper used for endsheets), while entire vendors I counted on going were going completely out of business, and while other hiccups and road bumps seemed to occur with much more frequency than normal, I must honestly admit I was also going through some sort of personal funk. For the past 15 years, I had grown accustomed to working on books bringing me so much joy that it lifted me out of all the other crap that life throws at you. Bad day at the day job? Fuck it, I got a new Brian Keene book to work on. Medical scare? Reading a Wrath James White manuscript will lift my spirits. Nearly any bad thing I can think of, my medicine was Pelayo, SanGiovanni, Kelly, Smith, Kolesnik, Fracassi, Golden, Lucia, Morgan, Barnett, Baxter, Triana, Canon, Ford, Strand, Lutzke, Comunale, The Sisters, Mr. Joe R Lansdale. I could make this list a mile long. But what has come to light this year, something that I think I always knew about myself, is that for me to be truly happy I need to operate in a fast paced environment and I need to bring the right attitude. And the last half year has been way, way too fucking slow for me and my attitude has been shit.
But the sun is starting to shine, the snow is starting to melt, and as the books begin to flow again, I am so hoping that my funk will finally dissipate. God knows, I have carried it long enough.
My binder has 13 books which should be in late production stages. (Some long ago announced, some unannounced). And I am about to send another 8 their way.
And my binder has informed me that a good chunk of books (unfortunately not all) will be shipping by the end of this week or the beginning of next. I have asked for a list of the titles that are actually shipping. I have not gotten this information yet, but I am long overdue with at least providing some communication to you all.
I know this post is just the first step, but for me it is a damn important one.
