Good evening!
I hope everyone has had a great week. I am still progressing towards settling into my new place. Hoping to get some new bookshelves soon for my remaining ten boxes of books that I still need to unpack! Speaking of books, I received some amazing book mail from my favorite extreme author of all time, Edward Lee! Signed and shipped to me directly from the man himself!
It’s been a good week for the site, with the kickoff of Black History Month and a fresh round of reviews by Mort Stone, Christina Pfeiffer and myself. More authors and reviewers were added to the Indie Horror page with more to come this week as I can get time to spend on it.
I have started holding mentor chats and author peer chats which have gone very well so far. There are several new authors that I am helping to guide in their craft, as well as in the marketing and promoting side of things. It’s been great really getting to know them as they grow. One of them, Robert Poff, will be attending Authorcon and he is very excited to take part in this event. I had a great time chatting with him about the event, what he might need to bring, and how to prepare for his convention. I remember my own excitement last March, and admittedly, am still very excited for this upcoming event!
For author chats, I spoke with Steven Van Patten, who is my featured interview for this week’s Black History Month author. He is quite charming to speak to, very friendly, passionate about his work and this industry. He feels very strongly toward helping uplift and support other authors in the industry which echoes my own sentiments, as you all know. Later this week, I will be chatting with Paul Flewitt, Aron Beauregard and soon, Daniel Soule. I’m hoping to continue to do these more frequently to help garner some real peer to peer connections.
With regards to the Trapped anthology, the paperbacks and all swag shipped out this week to those that ordered. The hardcovers are set to be delivered the week of Feb. 13; I expect them by the end of that week. As soon as I get those, they will be packaged and shipped out to everyone waiting. There will be a limited number available at Authorcon.
Please feel free to email me to claim one in advance or order directly form the site to get one shipped when they arrive. They are $40. The paperback is available on Amazon along with the eBook. You can also get the eBook on Godless.com for a dollar less than Amazon.
For my writing, I did a bit over 12k words this week, some on The Generator, some on a new short story, and the rest on Bishop: Man vs Monster. Edits continue on Hank Flynn and I’m getting so excited to reach the end of these so we can relaunch and get the second installment out there! I think everyone will enjoy what I have I store for Hank as we go on.
Reminder on the Indie Horror page:
For the website, plans are slowly being built to create a full Indie Horror site for the community. It will feature reviews from all outlets, including my own team. Resource pages for publishers, authors, reviewers, artists, and editors. Tips and articles on the craft and the business written by community members. Links for events, signings, shows, and cons. If you are appearing somewhere, I want to know. If you are holding an event, I want to know. If it is indie horror related, Let ME KNOW! LOL. The concept is a one-stop shop for the indie horror community. Need to find an author, a book, an event, a con, an open call, come to Uncomfortably Dark. I hope to unveil the fully operational site in June of this year. More details to come.
Patreon:
On that note, I have also started a Patreon to help offset the costs of the website. Tiers start at $3 and go up to $15. Perks include free stories, signed paperbacks, coffee mugs, and more. Please consider joining up and helping to support this very important effort for the community.
So much more to come, but I am here, I am uncomfortable, and still dark. How was your week?
